What to see in Villasimius and surroundings:
Crystal clear sea, white beaches, worldly life and good food will fulfill every wish.

NOTTERI LAKE
A unique natural spectacle, an ecosystem between land and sea that embellishes the Protected Marine Area of Capo Carbonara, at the south-eastern end of Sardinia: a thin strip of sand separates the blue sea and the lagoon, habitat of pink flamingos. A unique setting with intense and brilliant colors, perfect for commercials and films.
The Lagoon of Notteri is located in the narrowest part of the Capo Carbonara peninsula, the extreme south-eastern tip of the island, just a few minutes from the town and the modern tourist port of Villasimius.
It is separated from the sea by a strip of fine sand, the beach of the same name, also known as Giunco Beach, and is surrounded by the Mediterranean scrub. Looking from the top of the cliff that delimits it, a dazzling picture emerges: a double blue field, with various shades, practically “Two Seas” (another name by which the rush is indicated) separated from the white beach.
The lagoon, without emissaries or connections with the sea, is half a meter deep: thus it favors the presence of pink flamingos, which can be admired along the south-eastern coast, only here and in the lagoon of Colostrai and Feraxi.

PORTO SA RUXI BEACH
Between Capo Boi and the Campus Beach, there is a bay formed by three small beaches with rocky sides.
The peculiarity of Porto Sa Ruxi lies in its shape: three arches that correspond to as many beaches with very fine white sand and protected behind by low rocks. The fascinating cliffs, then, frame this beautiful beach well sheltered from the mistral wind.
It can be reached by passing suggestive sandy dunes covered with Mediterranean scrub. It will be pleasant to dive into its transparent sea with its typical turquoise color and enjoy the sun on this double-grained sand beach. You will feel like you are on a tropical beach!
The landscape is worthy of a postcard in which the most beautiful and famous beaches of Sardinia are presented.

Punta Molentis Beach
On the south-eastern coast of Sardinia, a wonderful beach stands out, with an unmistakable charm, location for some commercials: clear water and white sand on one side, a granite quarry on the other. Blue and turquoise of the sea, bright white of the beach, dotted with pink on the shoreline and green of the Mediterranean scrub.
These are the postcard colors of Punta Molentis, one of the pearls of Villasimius (and of all southern Sardinia), which you will find along the panoramic provincial road to Castiadas and Costa Rei.
The crystal clear waters bathe the white and fine sand, whose reflections illuminate the coast. The promontory and the beach are part of the Marine Protected Area of Capo Carbonara and owe their name to su molenti, the donkey: it was once a means of transporting material extracted from the surrounding granite quarries. The granite rocks emerge like wrecks where the shore turns pink at sunset.

Campus Beach
An expanse of fine white sand on the outskirts of one of the most famous tourist resorts in Sardinia, within a protected area that occupies the south-eastern end of the island. It will appear in all its splendor along the panoramic road that leads from Cagliari to Villasimius in about 40 minutes, a few kilometers before arriving in the town of the renowned tourist center, between the village and the beach of Porto sa Ruxi and Campu Longu.
Campus beach is one of the pearls of the south-east coast, preserved by the Marine Protected Area of Capo Carbonara: located at the mouth of a small river, between reeds and Mediterranean scrub that reaches very close to the shore, it is wide and long, of soft sand that plunges into a crystalline and transparent sea with various shades of green and with depths that slope gently towards the open sea. Two small promontories close and shelter it, one of which separates it from the small beach of Cuccureddus.
Well equipped, it is the ideal place for families with children and for less experienced swimmers who prefer to swim close to the shore surrounded by multicolored fish. Also perfect for those who love to take long swims or walks.

Timi Ama Beach
Timi Ama beach is one of the beaches of Villasimius, located between Porto Giunco beach and Simius beach, along the beautiful coast of southern Sardinia.
Timi Ama beach is characterized by a beach with very fine and soft white sand and is reflected in a crystalline sea with beautiful colors between emerald green and turquoise, iridescent. The seabed is shallow and sandy, ideal for bathing in peace and safety. There is no presence of posidonia.
To the north and south a small cluster of rocks borders the beach, while behind it there are villas and luxury residences, beyond which we find the Mediterranean scrub.
This beach is quite popular during the summer months, as for the other beautiful beaches of Villasimius, although it is never extremely crowded.

Cavoli Island
Small granite island in the extreme south-eastern offshoot of Sardinia, less than a kilometer from Capo Carbonara, a borderland of unparalleled beauty, immersed in a wild and protected natural environment.
The Cavoli Island has an area of just 43 hectares but is a true flora and fauna jewel, accessible only by private boats or organized excursions from the port of Villasimius.
In its jagged coasts there are small inlets surrounded by granite boulders with white sand bottoms: the long and narrow Cala di Ponente, accessible to small boats, Cala del Morto to the south, Cala del Ceppo and the larger and more protected Cala di Scasciu.

Serpentara Island
Small but rich in nature, facing the coasts of Sarrabus, in the extreme south-eastern part of Sardinia, there is an island with a coastal edge with rocks and rocks that take on the vaguely evocative shape of a snake.
A small island of granite rocks which probably owes its name to the elongated and sinuous shape. Serpentara is located four kilometers off the beaches of Villasimius, of which it belongs.
Its surface of 134 hectares is uninhabited but populated by wild rabbits in the midst of the luxuriant and fragrant Mediterranean scrub, flown over by herons, Corsican gulls and shag, which make their nests here. It is not uncommon to come across dolphins near its coasts.

Porto Giunco Beach
Corner of the Caribbean in Sardinia, the “pearl” of the south-eastern coast, 45 kilometers from Cagliari: a sublime strip of fine sand and a calm sea that merges with the sky.
Anyone who passes by Villasimius, a famous tourist resort in the south-east of the island, is dazzled: a long expanse of soft, very light sand, with pink hues deriving from granite fragments, enclosed between a lagoon and the sea of pale blue tones, which takes on a infinity of shades as you go offshore.
Porto Giunco is a tropical beach in the center of the Mediterranean, one of the most famous on the island and one of the most beautiful in Italy, as sanctioned by TripAdvisor users, as well as by specialized magazines: its colors seem painted by an artist and have inspired directors and advertisers who have chosen it as the setting for their commercials.

Capo Carbonara
In the south-eastern corner of Sardinia, you will find fabulous coastal and submarine scenarios: above the water, headlands, coves and beaches, granite pinnacles underwater and cracks colored by sea daisies and gorgonians, inhabited by swarms of fish. Unique and varied landscapes, rocky coasts and long beaches, lagoons and green areas, within an ecosystem that protects its biodiversity and is the ideal habitat for the reproduction of many species.
L’Area Marina Protetta di Capo Carbonara is located in the territory of the renowned tourist center of Villasimius and is divided into two bays by the homonymous promontory, for a total extension of 86 square kilometers, from Capo Boi to the Island of Serpentara, including Cabbages Isalnd and shoals of Berni, Mezzo, Libeccio, Pescatelli and Santa Caterina, where lies the Madonna del castabile, statue of Pinuccio Sciola, the destination in July of a solemn procession.

Sanctuary Bonaria
The fascinating secular history that surrounds the Shrine of Our Lady of Bonaria is jealously guarded by the citizens of Cagliari. It is a religious complex located in Piazza Bonaria, on top of the homonymous hill.
It is the most important Marian sanctuary in Sardinia for the Catholic Church and consists of a small church (the real “sanctuary”, of fourteenth-century origins), flanked by a larger temple, raised to the title of minor pontifical basilica by Pius XI in 1926. In the sacred building, the parish seat of the Bonaria district, the mercedarian fathers, who live in the adjacent convent, officiate.
The architecture is of the Gothic-Catalan type. The construction of the basilica that flanks the Sanctuary dates back to 1704, when the Mercedarian friars decided to build a larger church in honor of the Virgin of Bonaria.
A strong bond links the Sanctuary of Bonaria to the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, so named in his honor.

Fortezza Vecchia
Situated on a granite promontory not far from Capo Carbonara, in a scenic position overlooking the sea, the fortress was built in 1580-1590, probably to adapt a pre-existing structure dating back to the fourteenth century to the changed defensive needs.
Its design was part of the program of constitution of a defensive system of connected coastal towers, wanted by Philip II of Spain to counter the attacks of the Barbary. Equipped with a garrison from 1590-91, from then on it acquired an increasingly important role and continued its function until 1847.
The fortress originally had the shape of an equilateral triangle. In 1790 it underwent an important transformation: the plant was given a quadrangular pattern and minibastions were added on the four corners, giving it the typical star shape that characterizes it.
